Afternoon Workshop on "Shilnikov Heritage"
Devoted to the memory of Leonid Pavlovich Shilnikov (1934-2011), creator of the homoclinic bifurcation theory in high-dimensional systems, crucial figure in the development of Dynamical systems and nonlinear dynamics and leader of Andronov's group at Lobachevsky State University in Nizhny Novgorod.

Title: "Shilnikov heritage: review of his classical and pioneering works"
Abstract: I will try to fulfil an impossible task: to give a more or less intelligible
overview of the pioneer classical L.P.Shilnikov works of 60-80th years.
The main Shilnikov results obtained in this period can be grouped into 5 main
topics: 1) bifurcations of separatrix loop in multidimensional systems;
2) homoclinic loop of a saddle-focus and mathematical theory of spiral chaos;
3) homoclinic chaos; 4) mathematical theory of synchronization, and chaos;
5) Lorenz attractor. In the talk, all these topics will be considered, but,
of course, with varying degrees of completeness.
17:00 -- 17:25 Coffee break.
17:25 -- 18:25 Dmitry Turaev, Imperial College, UK.
Title: "A positive metric entropy conjecture"
Abstract: We prove that any area-preserving diffeomorphism with an elliptic periodic
point can be perturbed, in C-infinity topology, to one exhibiting a chaotic
island with positive metric entropy (a joint work with P.Berger).Contact information
