The 6th AIMS Conference enjoyed a huge success at the historic city of Poitiers, France. The conference took place on June 25-28, 2006. This was the first AIMS meeting in Europe.
700 mathematicians and scientists from 5 continents participated in the meeting, establishing a new record in the AIMS Conference series. In a relaxing and stimulating environment, researchers exchanged new ideas, reported recent findings, reunited with old friends and made new ones. In addition to the 8 plenary addresses delivered by some prominent researchers, 45 special sessions were expertly organized, with themes ranging from mathematical analysis to applications and modeling in, e.g., biomathematics, medicine, fluid mechanics, celestial mechanics, astrophysics, engineering, and economics. The opening ceremony took place on Sunday, June 25, at 08:00, with welcome addresses from the Dean of the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, the Vice-President for research, of the University of Poitiers, and the Vice-President of the Region Poitou-Charentes. A media interview was carried out during the meeting. The conference banquet took place on June 26, in which 300 people participated. As the conference was sponsored by the US National Science Foundation, some graduate students and recent PhDs from the U.S. were supported with this NSF grant to participate in the meeting. |
